Instrukt Labs

Under construction

Open tools for building 3D worlds with coding agents, tested in real games.

This is v0 of the page (October 2026). The projects are live. The lab around them is still being built.

Tools

Build 3D with your coding agent.

Local, open-source tools: Kiln makes and revises assets, Holodeck turns them into worlds you can walk.

Four Holodeck worlds in a grid: a plaza of arches over water, a palm island, a snowy forest cabin and a garden with a fountain.

Tool MIT (code), CC0 (bundled assets)

Holodeck

Build 3D worlds with your coding agent, then walk them.

  • Connect Codex, Cursor or Claude Code from the dock, collect references on a mood board, write a world bible and build the world around you.

  • Six example worlds to walk in the browser with no install; locally it runs from source with Git, Node.js and npm.

Games

Where the tools get tested.

Browser games and demos you can play today. Four of the six use 3D assets made with Kiln.

A dark sheepdog in tall pasture grass with a flock of cream and brown sheep to its right, and a white farmhouse, a red barn, trees and a fenced yard on the horizon.

GameAGPL-3.0

Sheepdog Sim

Guide a whole flock through the pasture gate with one patient dog.

  • Choose a flock of 25, 75 or 200 sheep; play with keyboard, gamepad or touch.

  • Solo, co-op and shared-flock competitive for two to four players via invite links. No account needed.

  • Observer view of the bridge fight: PAVN soldiers firing from the wooden bridge deck, red sight lines running right toward US positions, green US fire lines answering from the far bank, with labels over each soldier.

    Game

    Terror in the Jungle

Command a squad, learn your weapons and find your way through the jungle.

  • Goldberg Planet from orbit: blocky continents, oceans and clouds on a faceted sphere.

    Demo

    Goldberg Planet

Walk, mine and build on a true Goldberg-polyhedron planet, then craft a plane and fly around it.

  • OBJEKT 62 title card: a small outpost with a helipad on a hazy dune sea under a low sun.

    Game

    OBJEKT 62

Fly an ornithopter over a 40 km dune sea and get home before the storm.

  • A skier in a blue jacket and orange beanie holds a mute grab mid-spin above a stadium jump, with a cheering crowd behind the barrier and a DJ stage on the slope.

    Game

    ski sim

Freestyle skiing in the browser: carve trails, land tricks, grind rails.

Primitives and experiments

The parts underneath.

Rendering and simulation building blocks, each with a live demo you can open in a browser.

Blue and orange contour lines of a procedural field on a drafting grid, with a crosshair over one slope.

LibraryMIT

Matter Field

Procedural fields that gameplay code can query, instead of leaving them trapped in a shader.

  • Six hardware receipts cover three physical GPUs across NVIDIA and AMD, through WebGPU and WebGL2. Intel and Apple silicon are still open.

  • Zero required core runtime dependencies; public preview as a GitHub prerelease, not yet on npm.

Source: Matter Field README

A dense field of stylised grass stretching into a warm haze, with a small figure standing in it.

LibraryMIT

Three.js Field Grass

Interactive TSL grass with wind and body wakes.

  • Deterministic baked scatter, one instanced draw per layer, three-octave wind and a settling wake behind moving bodies.

  • A plain Three.js core API with no image assets or downloaded models, plus a thin React Three Fiber adapter.

Get involved

The door's open.

Small, async and real today. Pick whatever fits.

  1. Measure a GPU

Run Matter Field's parity assay on Intel or Apple silicon (or more AMD drivers) and submit the JSON receipt. The Intel and Apple cells are still empty.

  2. Join the Kiln Discord

Share what you made, get help, or ask for hosted access in #request-access.

  3. Start a discussion

Questions, ideas and show-and-tell are welcome in GitHub Discussions on Matter Field and Sheepdog Sim.

  4. Send a fix

Bug reports with a small repro, docs fixes and small patches are welcome. Each repo's CONTRIBUTING.md says how.

  5. Propose a collaboration

Building something nearby? Write with what you're making and what you'd want to do together.

Replies come when Matt can; there's no fixed response time.

Notes and archive

Field notes

Skills written while running real agent services.

Archive

Earlier agent experiments, frozen as read-only references.

  • RADAR (2023)

An autonomous research agent that rebuilds its own context each round. Frozen reference. Repo RADAR (2023)

  • Arkt (2025)

A Socratic meta-prompt compiler that made clarification a gated phase. Frozen reference. Repo Arkt (2025)

  • Mycelium v2 (2026)

A multi-agent coding orchestrator across ten coding CLIs. Frozen reference. Repo Mycelium v2 (2026)

About

One person, set up as a lab.

Instrukt Labs is an independent lab for real-time graphics, simulation and games. It builds open-source tools, uses them to ship browser games, and folds what the games expose back into the tools.

Right now it is one person, Matthew Kissinger. It's set up as a lab rather than a portfolio because the work goes further with more people on it: testers with unusual hardware, people making things with Kiln, and graphics and game developers who want to build alongside.

How the lab works

  • Incubate, then scale. Projects start small enough to run today, in a browser or on your machine, and grow into platforms once real use proves them.
  • Receipts over adjectives. Each project says what it does and where it stops. Matter Field publishes a parity receipt for every GPU it has run on.
  • Source stays editable. Kiln assets are programs you can revise; Holodeck worlds keep their full revision history.
  • Local first, distributed by design. Everything runs on your own machine with your own coding agent, no account needed. The same pieces scale out: hosted Kiln serves the toolchain over remote MCP, and the games run multiplayer on edge Workers.
